Worms and the Nibelungs are inseparably linked: Siegfried, Kriemhild and all the protagonists of the Nibelung tale are good aquaintances to the inhabitants of Worms. However, when you come to Worms, you will notice that there are many more reasons to explore the Nibelung town. For Worms also belongs to the selected circle of Luther-towns as the brave reformer here confessed himself to his writings in front of the Emperor and the Empire in 1521, and never withdrew.

To start a little tour through the heart of Worms, abundant with history, I recommend St. Peter’s Cathedral. The building, erected in the 12th century, is one of the major Norman style cathedrals on the Rhine besides the Mainz and Speyer cathedrals. Passing by the museum at the Andreasstift, a snug footpath leads to the oldest still existing Jewish cemetery in Europe, the “Heiligen Sand”. A bit further on into the direction of the Dom, you reach the art museum Heylshof which accommodates one of the largest still preserved private art collections of the 19th century in Germany. After passing by the Luther memorial you reach the Jewish synagogue.

The Nibelung festival is a feast for all culture fans. Each year in August the story about murder, revenge and betrayal is revived here. (Ticket-Hotline: 01805337171).

Already since 1933, the Backfischfest is a particularly beautiful celebration, being the biggest wine and and public festival on the Rhine. For nine days all of Worms is captured by the ubiquitous air of festivity every last Saturday in August.

Of course a wine-tasting has to be part of any successful visit to Worms.

A special recommendation for a delicious meal is the Rotisserie Dubs in Worms-Rheindürkheim. Here, they have specialized in refined dishes with a French touch, and the choice of wines is exquisite.

We gladly assist in finding you certified private accommodation at low prices in your requested category all over Worms.

I am looking forward to your visit!
