But enough of history and off to the Viertel.

Mind you, no city map will lead you there as it's a local expression for the Ostertor and Steintor districts in the eastern suburbs. Stroll, shop, see and be seen there – all to the backdrop of gorgeous 19th century buildings.

Absolutely worth seeing are the Spezialitätenhandlung Holtorf Heimathaven. Packed with numerous theatres, museums, cinemas and alternative venues, the area even hosts a little red light district on Helenenstraße, off the Steintor. If you want to get away from the bustle, let the Sielwall ferry take you over the river Weser to Cafe Sand.

A stroll along the river will take you to the Schlachte. Already in the 13th century, the reinforcement of the bank here laid the foundation for the city's wealth through trade. Today we can ride boats and look at them, stroll or make ourselves comfortable on one of the 2,000 seats.

Parallel to the Schlachte you find the the Geeren street, here is the traditional Bremen roasting house Münchhausen, which also offers guided tours.

Now it's off to a different item on the agenda: find out about crooks, thugs and gangsters - learn about the dark side of Bremen! Or how about a guided walk on mathematics and (everyday) culture? StattReisen Bremen offers this and more.

Further down the Weser, we'll get to the Überseestadt where an entire new district is emerging. Where ships used to be unloaded until recently there are modern lofts next to old warehouses now. Enjoy culture, events and shopping facilities in the old port area which, although still a building site, is already buzzing with life. Immerse yourself in it!

Discover Bremen! Be our guest! Call us and tell us your wishes and you'll get a suitable offer on the spot.
