The city of Kölsch (native Cologne beer) and Carnival, Art and "Klüngel." ![]() There is probably no other city with more contrasts; 40 international fairs are held here, many TV and radio productions call it home...and then there is the Cologne Carnival, the crazy giant festival of the people, where you can party till you drop! Those interested in art and culture will feel at home, and there are many possibilities to catch your breath in the greener parts of Cologne...the Römerpark, the Stadtgarten, and trips into the Bergische Land or in the Siebengebirge by ship guarantee pure recreation. The boats dock on all bridges of the Rhine. Beloved by Cologners and visitors alike is the fleamarket held every 3rd Saturday of the month in the Old Town (March until October).
"Kölsch" is the name of the local dialect as well as the local beer. Enjoy a Kölsch in one of the traditional breweries, most of them are directly in the center of the Old Town. Be careful when ordering a "Halven Hahn"...it's not half a chicken, like it sounds, but rather a Kölsch and a rye roll with a thick layer of Gouda cheese and lots of mustard...a favorite of the locals!
