"Et jit nix, was nit jit" or there ain't nothing new under the sun, as we Düsseldorfers say, and in that spirit, we reinvent ourselves again and again. And that doesn't only encompass our world famous fashion scene. Join us for a little tour...

Our Königsalle (King´s Alley), or the "Kö", as we call it, is just about a kilometer long, but its known around the world. It is one of the best shopping addresses in Germany. Many famous fashion houses have their shops on its sidestreets. When the sun comes out, the Königsalle becomes one big sidewalk cafe. Strolling, posing, and drinking a glass of champagne in a cafe terrace in the shade of an old chestnut tree are the order of the day. Perhaps that's why the nickname "little Paris", first coined by Napoleon during a visit in Fall of 1811, has stuck.
The Düsseldorf Altstadt (old town) offers unique shops and around 260 cozy pubs - thus the expression "the longest bar in the world". If you like American football, our team, the Rhinefire, will excite you. For more American atmosphere, visit "Maroons", the first diner in the heart of Düsseldorf.
From the newly erected Rheinuferpromenade (boardwalk along the Rhine river), past the Altstadt, I can recommend a boat tour on the Rhine. The "Weiße Flotte" (white fleet) offers special trips such as a Halloween cruise from EUR 17,- / person, as well as panoramic tours from EUR 6,- / person, and day trips to Cologne and Zons. The "KD", as well, offers day trips and special tours, for example, country and western with live music.
I anticipate with great pleasure each summer the Jazz festival, entertaining not only to die-hard Jazz fans. Also the "Altstadt Autumn" is a big event. The city is populated with talented people from all over the world, who invite you to enjoy readings, concerts, and colorful events in the town.
Nightlife is varied and fun. The Open-Air Cinema in the Burgplatz on the Rhein, various concerts and musicals in the Capitol, or the famous Apollo's Variete will make the choice difficult.
The countryside offers castles, forts, and a magical landscape. I can recommend the Neandertal (site of the excavation of the Neandertal Man), where you can take a picturesque hike through forests and fields. Or the largest "Schützenfest" (town fair) in Germany, across the Rhine in Neuss, on the third weekend in August.
Highly recommended is a weekend on a horse farm in the beautiful countryside 20 minutes outside of Düsseldorf. The main house, built in the style of a country manor, has two multiple-bed and four double rooms, each of which has its own bath. The stud farm, with more than 50 Haflingers, is the heart of the estate. Riding classes of all sorts are offered, as well as and rides in the countryside.
